No other school won as many awards! For more information about this competition, go to www.emmys.tv/foundation.  Congratulations to all!Congratulations to David Mitchell (MFA 02) whose second feature, "It Follows", is premiering at Cannes Critics' Week!  It is described as “a coming-of-age nightmare about sex, love and the unseen horrors that follow us.”  His first feature, Myth of the American Sleepover, won a special jury prize at Cannes in 2010. Julio Perez (MFA 02) edited the film and Nicholas Huynh (MFA 04) was first assistant camera. Shane Houghton (BFA 07) recently started a staff writing gig at Nickelodeon's animation studios on a show called "Bad Seeds". In addition, he is currently developing a new show co-created with his brother, Chris, for Disney Television Animation. This is the Houghton brothers' third animated idea to be optioned by a major studio. From Praheme da Praphet (MFA  10)  “Wanted to let you know that Troop 491: the Adventures of the Muddy Lions will be making it's National TV premiere 4/25 9pm on UPtv.” From Shannon Johnson (MFA 08)  “I'm currently on the First National Tour of Ghost the Musical. We are playing FL over the next month. For ticket information: www.ghostthemusical.com.  Tampa: 4/22 - 4/27 (I won't be performing Friday - Sunday), Ft. Lauderdale 4/29 - 5/11, Orlando 5/13 - 5/18” Film School Film Festival Coordinator Brenda Mills was  in LA this week attending the Student Emmys, helping our filmmakers carry home all those trophies!     Then she goes  to Seattle where Cootie Contagion (BFA Thesis 2012 Josh Smooha), Lez Be Honest (BFA Thesis 2012 Haley Manrique), Silent Kid (BFA Documentary 2013 Nastasia Humphries), Star-Crossed (BFA Thesis 2012 Katie Aldworth), Goldtooth (BFA Thesis 2012 Lauren Brinkman) and Moonbounce (BFA F3 2013 Michael Kefeyalew) were selected for screening at the National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY) in Seattle, April 24-27. From Juraj Bedi (MFA 12)  “I've been very busy last year. I've been working in Atlanta on various small projects. It was going well but I would need another two to three years to get enough work to fully support my family. After my baby was born I decided to get full time job so Katie can stay home with baby. I joined the US Army, went through basic training and I just graduated Advanced individual training with the best scores in the class (so I received the Army Achievement Medal). Right now I'm working as an engineer but after I get my secret clearance I would like to switch to "Combat camera/video documentarist". We'll see what the future brings. For now, I'm going to airborne training and after that to Fort Bragg where I'm assigned to my unit. During training I was squad and also platoon leader and I fully used leadership abilities learned in film school where as a DP I was managing my crew just like now I'm managing my soldiers. I also made a graduation video about our training that was screened at our graduation.”. Julio Perez (MFA 02) has had a big year!  He edited David Mitchell’s film (see above) which is playing in Cannes, edited a doc wich is premiering at TriBeCa (Dior and I), and is editing a documentary about Cuba's underground drag-racing community and their quest to hold the first official car race since the Cuban Revolution. Through the experiences of these racers, HAVANA MOTOR CLUB explores why racing was banned after the 1959 Cuban Revolution, why the ban was recently lifted, and how challenging the process of holding the race becomes for the organizers. As a Cuban-American, I am especially moved and gratified to be a part of this film.  With that said, we need your help to raise additional funds to cover final finishing costs, music, sound design, and licensing so that we can launch the film into festivals and distribution. We have recently started a Kickstarter campaign, which will be live until Saturday, May 3rd at 11:59pm EST. We're happy to announce that we've almost reached two thirds of our goal already, and were just featured on Kickstarter's homepage as the "project of the day"! While this is exciting news, we still have a long way to go in order to reach our goal of $52,250. If we are unable to reach that number, we will not receive any of the funds.  Please click here  and donate any amount you can. We are offering some great rewards for your donation!  If you donate $200 or more and prefer to have your donation be TAX DEDUCTIBLE, you can opt out of  a reward. We would be so grateful for any support you can give.  The more people we reach, the bigger the impact we can make! LA INTERN POSTING: A newly formed production company with a TV deal at HBO is seeking credit-only interns. We're looking for students who are actively trying to pursue a career in the entertainment industry upon graduation. Interns must be currently enrolled in college, able to receive credit, LA-based and have means of transportation. Previous experience is preferred. The office is located in West Hollywood. The film is a true FSU Film alum collaboration, Written and Directed by Dan Ast (BFA 05), Produced by Michelle Cantor (BFA 06), Cinematography by Austin Lee Smoak (BFA 05) and Co-Produced by Jermaine Whitely (BFA 03) and Ryan Causey (BFA 06). Many other FSU alums made up the vast majority of the volunteer crew. Quite simply, this film wouldn't exist without the FSU film school.  If you want to grab a copy of the film, it is currently available on Amazon. The DVD boasts many special features including Behind The Scenes featurettes and three full length cast and crew commentaries covering various aspects of the production.  http://www.amazon.com/Claire-Aidan-Bristow/dp/B00ISZND1M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1401205480&sr=8-1&keywords=claire+dvdFor those interested in an HD copy, CLAIRE hits iTunes on June 3rd.” From Tricia Mears (MFA 11)  “Hello fellow alums! I am producing a teaser trailer for a feature film in NYC. We are planning on shooting Saturday, June 28th. We are looking for a RED Epic camera to borrow for that weekend with a return that Sunday. If you are in the tri-state area and have access or know someone who has access to a RED Epic camera, please contact me at tricia.mears@gmail.com. Thanks!” Want to read a really fun article on Lauren Miller Rogan (BFA 03)?  Go to http://hellogiggles.com/lauren-miller-hollywoods-best-kept-secretAnd the following relates to Lauren’s work with Alzheimer’s:   “Dearest LADY friends, we're putting your brains on a pedestal! My brain creates laughter, starts movements, and contains an inordinate amount of Seinfeld quotes! Please share with us, why does your brain matters??    http://bit.ly/1mSIIAI #HFC2EndAlz. From Meghan Robertson (BFA 03)  “I'm so excited to join the crew of "Gotham" in July as assistant editor. I hope everyone will tune in and enjoy our work this fall on Fox!” Van Flesher (MFA92) shot Dolly Parton's new video! Check it out…  http://www.vevo.com/watch/dolly-parton/home/USQX91401123 From Matt Weiss (BFA 97)  “ I am producing/directing and editing six episodes of a comedy web series written and starring comedian Ted Alexandro and featuring a ton of well-known comedians in special guest roles. Its called Teachers Lounge and every episode features a new faculty member joining Ted as the music teacher and his co-star/co-writer Hollis as the Janitor in the teacher's lounge. Folks like Lewis Black (Daily Show) as the principle, Judah Friedlander (30 Rock) as the computer science teacher, Judy Gold as the gym teachers, musician Ted Leo as himself -- and the new slate of episodes we're trying to raise money for through Kickstarter will feature Jim Gaffigan, Dave Attell, Todd Barry, Jim Norton, Michael Che, and Rachel Feinstein, to name a few. Its been a dream working with all these funny people and hopefully there are some Warren-report-reading comedy fans looking to support independent comedy productions like this and can check us out at this link - of course there are tons of unique rewards for people who donate.   https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/167829569/teachers-lounge " From Daron Jenkins:  “I wanted to share with you a project I am working on that you or your company might find beneficial to get involved in. I am working to launch New York Film Loft (NYFL), a co-working/incubator for the film industry.  When Will It Launch?  Spring 2015  Where Will it Be Located?  I am currently looking at space in Williamsburg, Bushwick, Astoria/LIC, and Financial District. I am most excited about Bushwick (specifically the Jefferson Avenue area) because of it’s ties to the arts community, it’s array of cool food & drink establishments, it’s streets & buildings which are big enough for production trucks, and it’s proximity to subways (walking distance to a few different L Train stops). Our priority is ease of access, convenience of location, enough space for possible/future expansion, and of course, affordability.  How Much Will Membership Be?Shared Desks will be around $300/month; Dedicated Desks around $600/month and Production Offices will be about $2000/month. There will also be day passes (w/o Media Lounge access) for $25 and day passes (w/ Media Lounge access) for $40. What will membership include:  Primarily, monthly membership will include daily access to workspace, wifi, a snazzy workspace, media lounge (industry software, stock footage/photos/music), access to industry classes & events, access to event space, access to industry networking, access to business services and conference rooms. In addition, members will have access to special programs & events like our 220am Digital Distribution program, access to mentorship, access to a crowdfunding platform, access to our Film Incubator Program, access to product/business services and resources, access to prop room, access to production space, and other services. What Are You Looking For?  Of course, I am definitely looking for investment and sponsors (isn’t everyone! lol!). I am looking for companies & consultants with which NYFL can form strategic partnerships with (like Samsung, Google, etc.). I am also looking for a few more passionate and connected individuals for our advisory board.  djenkins@nyfilmloft.com FSU CMPA Screenings & Awards Update – May 29, 2014  Killer Kart (MFA Thesis 2012 J Feeney) was awarded Best Short Film, Best Actress in a Short Film, and Audience Choice in the Short Film category at the Horror Realm Film Festival in Pittsburgh, May 23-25.
