Warren Report 1.17.15

From Nathan Levine-Heaney (MFA  08)  “I got my first major network Director of Photography credit this year on 'Marvel's a Agent Carter'. I work on the show as a camera operator and wound up shooting quite a lot of additional photography and double up days, this the additional DP credit. It was the culmination of a good year working on Marvel projects for me, I was a camera operator on the Guardians of the Galaxy film earlier in the year, so hopefully they keep calling!  You can check out Agent Carter on ABC Tuesday nights, it's a cinematic show set in the 1940's, and our kick ass lead Haley Atwell made it to "number one" on the IMDB star meter after the premiere, so hopefully audiences love her.”  From Sara Bennett Crowley (BFA  04)  “I am still living and breathing stop motion animation in Portland, Oregon. I recently started my role as Production Coordinator at HouseSpecial, a commercial production company specializing in all things animation. HouseSpecial recently split from LAIKA Entertainment, which was formerly the Will Vinton Studios of California Raisins and Claymation fame. I have been nerding out in the clay vault with decades worth of puppets and props as we prepare to start work in a new building. As a member of the LAIKA family, I am gathering more producing experience before film #5 is ready to crew.  The Boxtrolls, on which I worked 4 jobs, spent 3 years, and received 2 separate screen credits, has been released on DVD and Bluray (January 20th!). Our film has been nominated for the Best Animated Film category of the Academy Awards, BAFTA, PGA, DGA, Golden Globes (we didn't win...) and has 13 nominations for the Annie Awards. I couldn't be more thrilled to have worked on this weird little feature. Nick McKaig, who has been our Film School admissions/social media guy is moving on to a new position at FSU! He will be Assistant Director of Admissions and Recruitment at the College of Business. We are going to miss this guy but hope this will be a great career move for Nick. From Marty Lang (MFA 04): “I'm thrilled to announce that OUT OF MY HAND, a feature I associate produced last year, will world premiere in the Panorama section of the Berlin International Film Festival! The film was a 2014 IFP Labs selection, and raised over $42,000 on Kickstarter last spring. OUT OF MY HAND is about a worker on a Liberian rubber plantation who wants to leave a life overshadowed by civil war, who moves to New York City to begin a new life as a taxi driver. It filmed in both New York City and Liberia. Looking forward to the film playing soon in the US!” Following is a list of those we know about who worked on films that have been nominated for an Oscar: Susan Dawes, MFA 1993, was a dialogue editor for Wild, which has nominations for best actress (Reese Witherspoon) and best supporting actress (Laura Dern), and for X-Men: Days of Future Past, which is nominated for best special effects.Amanda Farinos, BFA  2000, was an effects department coordinator for Into the Woods, which has nominations for best supporting actress (Meryl Streep), best costume design, and best production design.Marc Ostroff, BFA 1997, worked in visual effects for X-Men: Days of Future Past, which is nominated for best visual effects, and Maleficent, which is nominated for best costume design.Sara Bennett Crowley BFA 2004 was Producer's Assistant / Script and Marketing Coordinator for the Boxtrolls which is nominated for best animated feature.Paul Cohen and the Film School Torchlight program, hosted Rory King and her film Last Days in Vietnam, at FSU on Veteran's Day  where she received the FSU Student Veteran Torchlight Award.  Her film is nominated as best feature documentary.   From Scott Hammack (MFA 07)  “As a Video Editor at Telltale (San Francico), you will create high quality trailers and other promotional videos in support of our games. You’re an editing, story-telling, asset-evaluating, content-creating, problem-solving master. You’re also a natural-born collaborator who is organized beyond belief, and you’re able to work under tight deadlines.  You have an amazing demo reel. It’s going to blow our minds.
