Warren Report 5.28.15

From Brett Jacobsen (MFA 03)  “Fated, a short film I acted in is screening at the Dances with Films festival in Hollywood on Saturday, May 30th in a block of shorts that start at 2:45pm. It is playing last in the block (which, based on film school screening rules, is a pretty good spot). It’s a high tech comedy that is fit for all ages. Also, on Thursday June 11th at 7:30pm a feature film that I had the pleasure of acting in is playing at LACMA as part of the LA Film Festival. It’s called “Too Late” and is especially robust Warren Report material because it’s written and directed by Film School alum Dennis Hauck  (MFA 03) and shot on 35mm film. It’s a gritty detective story staring John Hawkes and a great supporting cast of characters (including me). Other FSU alums on the film include Producer Taylor Feltner (BFA 04), Cinematographer Bill Fernandez (MFA 03), Costume Designer Gillian Zwick, Camera Operator George Reasner (MFA 94), Gaffer Bill Persaud (BFA 01), Assistant Costume Designer Kim Rice (MFA 06), Ryan Lynch (MFA 02) did some G&E (I believe) and Film School student-that-got-away Mike "G” (Gioulakis) worked as a Gaffer as well. I hope I’m not leaving anyone out. (Feel free to edit this so it makes me look smart and enjoyable to be around).Fated info: https://www.facebook.com/events/409052645940335/Too Late info: http://www.toolatemovie.com (you can buy tickets from here) and the FB event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/820672001313199/ From Aaron Moorhead (BFA 08)  “The movie I made with Justin Benson, SPRING, came out in theatrically in Canada and the UK this weekend! MTV picked up a clip of one of my favorite scenes of the film, and it got 4 star reviews in the UK from The Guardian, The Daily Mirror, The Star (UK), and the Toronto Star (all of them online and in real live newsprint!). In FSU-land, SPRING had Michael Felker editing, Will Sampson on steadicam/drone, and Brian Barrow coloring. Check out the MTV thing in which it is amusingly called a "Hyped Travel Sex Horror": http://www.mtv.co.uk/new-movies/news/watch-exclusive-clips-from-hyped-travel-sex-horror-spring . And if anyone wants to see the movie in the US, it's out on most platforms where movies can be watched: http://drafthousefilms.com/film/spring” Tallahassee:  The Lee's Place (a local grief, loss and trauma therapy center)  DoveTales committee is working to secure a videographer for the event this year. We feel an historical record from year to year will serve us in many aspects.  Is it possible that a film school student would like to take on this project for community service? The challenge, from a videoing standpoint, is the dim lighting used in the Legion Hall for the event.  The date of the event is Friday October 23, 2015 from 8-10 pm, at the Legion Hall. Here is a link http://leesplace.org/dovetales-2015  If you are interested or have questions, contact Beth Tedio at beth@leesplace.org.  Interested in Production Design?      RT @designtaxi: Art director creates a directory of awesome free resources for creatives http://t.co/A3MAkWALgQ http://t.co/adwjxIqVtJ “This program with the Disney Animation Studios may be of interest to you.  This one is geared at recent graduates.  Our Story and Visual Development Apprentice opportunities are newly posted on our site under "BUILDING OUR FUTURE" - http://bit.ly/1s9qgcl “ WriteGirl is looking for A Few Good Men in Los Angeles this summer! Our new Bold Ink Writers summer program is currently looking for male writers to mentor teen boys: http://www.writegirl.org/bold-ink-writers/ The deadline to submit is Tues 6/2 and mentor training is Sun 6/7. Join us! - Liz Rizzo, MFA 2002 “Help us kick-off the Atlanta Film Festival's year-round New Mavericks program at our first networking event!   Do you write, produce or direct? Do you edit, shoot or animate? Maybe you want to be a gaffer, an AC or a grip? New Mavericks supports women involved in various aspects of the Atlanta film community to achieve a strong voice in the local industry. Mark your calendars for the third Wednesday of the month from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm for our regularly scheduled meetings at Java Vino.” Upcoming Screenplay Contest Deadlines: 6/19/2015Breaking Walls Thriller Screenplay Contest 6/30/2015Big Break Screenwriting Competition 6/30/2015Final Draft's Big Break International Screenplay Contest 7/19/2015Cynosure Screenwriting Awards11/7/2015Cinequest Screenwriting Competiton2/28/2016Nickelodeon Writing Program FSU CMPA Screenings & Awards Update – May 28, 2015  S.P.A.G.H.E.T.T-1 (MFA Thesis 2009 Adam Varney) was invited to screen at the Phoenix Comicon Film Festival, May 28-31.
