    Warren Report 7/18/13

From Scott Devine (MFA- 93).  "We're finishing up production on the feature-length documentary NECESSARY EVIL: SUPER-VILLAINS OF DC COMICS, that I am co-directing/co-producing for Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment.  The doc explores our fascination with villains and discusses the various bad guys of the DC Universe, featuring interviews with the creative minds from DC and various filmmakers and comic book experts.  And to top it off, film legend Christopher Lee provides the voiceover narration.  Here is a link to the original announcement: http://bit.ly/1aeavr5.  The feature length version comes out this fall, but a cutdown "first look" version will screen at ComicCon in San Diego next week on Thursday, July 18th at 7pm and will also have a discussion panel featuring several of the interview subjects from the documentary as well as myself.  So, if you're at ComicCon, come check it out.  Here's the scheduling link: http://www.comic-con.org/cci/thursday.  And they just posted a link today to the trailer for my documentary NECESSARY EVIL: SUPER-VILLAINS OF DC COMICS.http://www.dccomics.com/videos/sdcc-2013-necessary-evil-trailer-exclusive-first-look Watch for our own Kelsey Scott (MFA 99) in this trailer (http://youtu.be/z1gd7Pp65YE)  for 12 Years as a Slave, starring Brad Pitt.  It will be released by New Regency and Fox Searchlight in October.  From Naja Young (MFA 04)  “ It is my pleasure to announce that my company, NaRa Films,  and O.Y.’s Spotlite Entertainment recently completed our first feature film, Blood First (click here to view the trailer). Blood First follows the lives of two brothers during three critical periods of their lives, chronicling the decisions and circumstances that made these boys into men. Blood First was filmed in the summer of 2012 in what was described on The Rachel Maddow Show as one of America’s most dangerous neighborhoods, a small community located in one of the nation’s “most livable cities,” Pittsburgh, PA. While we were very fortunate to have no incidences of crime or violence disrupt our production, the film accurately portrays the perilous cycle of crime, violence and imprisonment plaguing this community and others around the nation. With music by multiplatinum producer Drumma Boy and some of today’s hottest Rap and R&B artists the film is relevant with young audiences while delivering a serious message that makes one ponder how your upbringing and community can truly define your life.”  From Nick Rufca (BFA  98)  “I'm currently Production Supervisor on "Life After Beth", currently shooting in LA, starring Aubrey Plaza, Dane DeHaan, John C. Reilly, Molly Shannon and Anna Kendrick - written/directed by Jeff Baena (writer of I Heart Huckabees). I love being part of a film project shooting on Hollywood turf. Scheduled for release in 2014.” From Paul Seetachit (MFA  07)  “Excited to let you know that Rock Jocks is now available for digital download and on VOD! You can get a copy at http://www.rockjocksthemovie.com/ , Itunes, or Amazon. VOD on Time Warner Cable and At&T Uverse. Also we just released  our red band trailer.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fozt6KqHMAQ&feature=youtu.be   Lastly, if anyone is at San Diego Comic Con this weekend, I will be at the Geek and Sundry Lounge on a Rock Jocks cast/crew panel at 4pm Thursday and there will be a of the movie screening at 5pm Saturday. http://goo.gl/HZiNd    Shannan E. Johnson (MFA Writer 08)   “I have just been cast in the 13-14 National Tour of the Broadway show Ghost the Musical. Catch me in a city near you: http://www.schenectadytheater.com/theaters/proctors-theatre-schenectady/ghost-the-musical-on-tour.php “  NOTE:  Her show will play in New Orleans, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and several places in FL. Hope everyone will consider supporting the Kickstarter campaign for Film School faculty member Chuck Williams. As many of you know, Chuck is an FSU alum who has been making animated films for nearly 20 years.  (He produced the Oscar-nominated feature film Brother Bear.)  He and his creative partner, Aaron Blaise, are now raising development money for their newest film, "Art Story."  It's a great story that I think really needs to be made.  Here's the link: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/291846368/art-story?ref=live  NOTE:  Chuck and Aaron have set up an Ambassador Program (pledge of $10 or more)   Great for teachers, students, Film School alums.   Sounds like a great plan – you can check it out in the information about Backers on the Kickstarter site. From Jennifer Braddock (BFA  04)  “I am leaving this week for Boston to attend the 67th Quadrennial IATSE convention as a delegate for Local 600! It is quite an honor and I look forward to learning and sharpening my skills!” From Sylwia Duzinska (MFA  09)  “Currently working on the feature, "Stuck" as an Addl 2nd 2nd for the full run of the show.  It’s a low budget with Sarah Butler, DB Sweeney and Malcolm McDowell, directed by Malek Akkad.” From Jennie Jarvis (BFA 2000): Full Sail University's MFA Creative Writing Program needs a Course Director for the Script Analysis and Criticism course. This class primarily focuses on looking at the underlying structure of films, games, TV, comics and web series, but it also has a small component of critical theory as well (easy to learn for anyone that doesn't have experience with this). The University requires that all faculty have at least 4 years of continuous professional experience (no exceptions) for this job. Master's degree or MFA preferred, but we can wave that with a BFA and at least ten years of professional experience. Must be willing to live and work in Winter Park, FL. Anyone interested please get my email address from Meryl and shoot me your CV.Winner of numerous awards, Kenneth Jones (MFA 91)  and about to make another film in Tallahassee.  His feature “Love & Fate” aired nationally on Encore, Starz and BET Movie Channels. It was also chosen as “one of the best films at the South By South West film festival.” The Miami Herald said “Love & Fate is a winning example of a film with out color barriers that shows Kenneth Jones talent as a filmmaker.”   Paid Crew Positions on Ken’s latest film: “My Music” - Feature Film ; Principal Photography Dates Weekends: September – November  2013     Shoot Location: Tallahassee, Florida area.  Open crew positions:  Prod. Design, Costumer, Boom:        Story   Ruth’s daunting world of being a teenage caretaker for her elderly aunt who has Alzheimer’s is transformed by the miracle of music in her life; A transformation that will force her to make a life or death choice. Contact  Send resumes/reels to: “My Music”, P.O. I know, I know ANOTHER Kickstarter - but hold a beat on the eye roll. If you can give something to the campaign, that's great & so appreciated, but equally as appreciated is help getting the word out. I'm a big fan of the Kickstarter platform and I think one common misconception about Kickstarter is the expectation that backers have to make large contributions. It's okay to give $5 or $10 to a project - even $1. The philosophy behind crowdfunding is that every little bit counts and supporting a campaign can take the form of a contribution or you can help spread the word on facebook/twitter, etc. OR share with one friend who you think would really dig. We'd be grateful for any of those things. Rant over. Here's the deets: PAPERBACK, written/directed by Adam Bowers who's first film, NEW LOW, was also shot in Gainesville on a shoe-string budget & premiered at Sundance 2010. I'm involved as an executive producer on this new film (My first time as an EP!). Adam is a really talented and wonderful young director who I believe it. Please take 3 mins to watch his video. I think it's 3 mins of your life that you won't want back & I have a hunch you'll want to throw some support his way : http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/adambowers/paperback-a-feature-film   From Paul Cohen, Director, Torchlight Program Call for Interns:  This fall semester we have a remarkable number of Sundance Film Festival Official Selections that are about to be released in theaters throughout the U.S.   Additionally, The Torchlight Program will again assist in curating this, the 3rd Annual, FSU Student Veteran Film Festival, and our interns will actively take part in the hosting of our filmmaking guests in the presentation of the award winning, outstanding new film for this heartfelt and important November 11th event.  Please contact us now if you are interested as I am currently scheduling interviews for the end of this summer’s session, Monday, July 22nd – Friday, August 2nd, or during August’s fall Semester, “Drop/Add Week”, Monday, August 26th to Thursday, August 29th. You can schedule or hold an appointment during the 1p.m. – 7p.m. daily schedule this week or again during drop/add week to join us and become part of a feature length motion picture marketing internship available through The Torchlight Program for fall 2013. Please call or email Gayle Gari  (pcasstgayle@gmail.com)  for more information or to set up an interview. This opportunity has led to a powerful resume building opportunity for our interning students. “  NOTE:  if you’d like complete information about this internship, please reply to this email and I’ll forward it to you. From Samantha Polan (BFA  09)  “Looking for a Paid Post-PA for a Davis Guggenheim documentary to start immediately! Must be proficient in AVID, a big plus if you know Photoshop and After Effects. Need to be a fast learner, quick on your feet with a good sense of humor. Please email your resume to: samanthapolan@gmail.com  “Telsey + Company casting is currently conducting an open casting call for the film IF I STAY, written by Shauna Cross and starring Chloe Grace Moretz. The film begins shooting in October and we are currently underway with our search for the role of ADAM, a lead character which plays opposite MIA (Chloe Grace Moretz). Attached is an Open Call Flyer with a description of the ADAM (18-24 years old) and details on the open call.
