Warren Report 4.9.15

The number 2 and 6 best films of 2015 so far, according to the Criticwire Network are It Follows (David Robert Mitchell MFA 02)  and Spring, (Aaron Moorhead BFA 08) respectively!    http://www.indiewire.com/article/the-best-indie-movies-of-2015-so-far-according-to-the-criticwire-network-20150403?utm_source=iwDaily_newsletter&utm_medium=sailthru_newsletter    Interesting article on how It Follows opened at http://badassdigest.com/2015/04/01/tim-league-it-follows-is-not-a-flop/ From Catherine Hurd (MFA  94)  "Zuccotti Park" was one of six finalists in the Venus Adonis NYC Theater Festival, and won "Best Director" and  second place for "Best Play," out of 48 entries. It broke all box office records for the history of the festival, mostly through word of mouth, since we did not have a publicist.  It also came out as top musical.  The following link is a review of all the finalists from Stage  Buddy:   http://stagebuddy.com/reviews/review-venusadonis-festival-2015   Our review from Stage Buddy: "In the spirit of productions like Rent and Hair, Zuccotti Park is a welcome addition to the musical that cares. As you walk into the theater, you are bombarded with a cornucopia of guitar-wielding and protest sign-lugging beautiful people as they shout, “We are the 99 percent!” Easily the liveliest of the productions, Zuccotti Park (book/lyrics by Catherine Hurd, music by Vatrena King) follows the Occupy movement in its early inception and the many narratives that echo a “People work their ass off and cannot pay the rent” refrain. Wonderfully crafted with soul stirring numbers, Zuccotti Park electrified the crowd, resonating with the soul of revolution. Brian Kinnard as Tom, a homeless veteran singing “I’m Your Hero” has a show stopping number. Director Luis Salgado and the entire ensemble bring justice and fervor to a movement that can no longer be ignored." Kyle Arrington (MFA  09)  is now a Staff Writer for the Originals on The CW.   He was given a freelance episode in season 2, entitled "Brotherhood of the Damned", and they hired him on as a staff writer for the third season of the show. From Josh Smooha (BFA  12)  “After finishing a pilot called American Superstore for NBC, I got a job at the Disney/ABC Television Group as their new webseries department coordinator. Its a new program so I will get help to shape it. As I work their I will still be keeping my eyes out for opportunities to become a writer's assistant or script coordinator on a TV show. Hopefully with an attractive name like Disney on the resume, and inside access to all their TV shows, hopefully I can jump onto one of their shows as a writer's assistant soon.” From Rebecka Peck (MFA 14)  “I’ve recently started a full time position at a company called We Are Famous heading up development for them and we are actually in search of some new projects We are looking for pitches from up and coming cool directors and filmmakers. You must show proof of a track record i.e. made several projects, sending either a reel and/or links to previous projects. It’s also very important that anyone submitting is the right fit for the We Are Famous brand and in line with previous projects we’ve made. Our company specializes in millennial branded content, anyone interested in submitting should visit our website www.wearefamous.com and check out our previous work. All those interested in being considered should send a link to their reel and/or past projects as well as a one-sheet write-up on their concept if possible to rebekah@wearefamous.com Film Independent's signature diversity program, Project Involve, is currently accepting submissions from filmmakers of diverse backgrounds and underrepresented communities.
