Warren Report 4.16.15

Join us in celebrating our First Graduating Class of FSU's College of Motion Picture Arts - Animation and Digital Arts Program. The screening will start at 8 PM on Saturday, May 2, at the Student Life Center.  Tickets are required. Contact Gina Rhodes at 644-8524 or gcrhodes@fsu.edu   Please join us in congratulating Jamie Klein (BFA3, Animation & Digital Arts), who just received notice that she has been selected as this year’s winner of the President's Undergraduate Humanitarian of the Year Award.  The award was given for her work directing Know More, a short film about the role that bystander intervention can play in reducing sexual assaults. Her film has played widely across campus and is now being used as part of the Undergraduate Orientation at FSU. This award serves not only as an acknowledgement of Jamie’s hard work, but also as a salute to all filmmakers. It represents the greater university community recognizing the power of cinema to affect meaningful change in the world.  From Joe Hackman (BFA  12)  “I've been working in the trailer world for a while now as an Assistant Editor but haven't gotten to do too much work as an Editor yet. However, I recently edited my first real trailer for a real film and it just premiered exclusively on The Hollywood Reporter's website! The movie is called Sun Choke, produced by Lodger Films, and it's an indie horror film which will be premiering at the Stanley Film Festival. Check out my work in the link: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/sun-choke-traces-isolation-obsession-788447 Dustin Cawood (MFA 03) is in the house this week!  He’s bringing his sound experience from Sykwalker to our classes and thesis films.   He’ll be screening and discussing one of his recent films, The Boxtrolls (2014), for the BFA1 class. From Miles Kahn (BFA  97)  “I've just completed a 4 episode web series called Halal in the Family starring Aasif Mandvi, Samantha Bee, Jordan Klepper, Sakina Jaffrey and more. You can find it on FunnyorDie.com or HalalintheFamily.TV. We shot all four episodes on a single day in Brooklyn on a set built from scratch to look like a classic 1980s sitcom. I hope you all enjoy it.” A Greg Jardin’s (MFA 05) latest music video!   First, the video is at https://www.youtube.com/watch…  Here is a behind the scenes:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeimiITb5kM   And here’s an interview with the Creators Project: http://thecreatorsproject.vice.com/blog/talking-to-the-director-of-maxs-backwards-gibberish-music-video Paul Cohen, Executive Director of CMPA's Torchlight Program has just returned from back to back participation at the Gasparilla International Film Festival (GIFF) where Aaron Moorhead's (BFA 08) and Justin Benson's feature "Spring" was presented. They were present along with Jason Ambler (BFA 09)  and more. From there Paul traveled to Ocala to speak at the Q&A of the Silver Springs Film Festivals FSU Student Short Film Showcase. Paul says they are both well worth submitting to as well as attending. He asked that any of our alumni and students that will be attending this year's Tribeca FF let him know as he will be looking forward to seeing you there April 19-21st. From Brandon Foster (MFA 14 - Writing)  “After an awesome time in LA doing a myriad of production internships, I was given the opportunity to become the Program Director of the Ronald McDonald Program in Tampa, Florida. After weighing the pros and cons, it was an easy decision and I took the plunge! I’m finally in the same place as my partner, and have more time to write now than I ever did in LA! And I also don’t have to fight for street parking. ;) Besides lots of writing and working alongside Ronald McDonald I’m also working part-time as a paid reader for Screencraft.org, helping them consult and judge screenplay competitions.” From Carrie Hunter (BFA  09)  “I'm going back to graduate school full time this summer so I've put in my two weeks notice at Channel 3 in Pensacola, FL. I've loved working here and all of the amazing people I've met along the way. If you're interested in my position, you'll find a "Producer/Director" slot open for "Creative Services" under "Pensacola." The primary "job" is to shoot and edit commercials and promotions as well as work on local tv programming like Friday Night Football.  This link  has job listings all over the country for the company I work for.  Locally  a bunch of people have gone to larger markets recently so there are several jobs open in both Creative Services and News.  https://sbgtv-openhire.silkroad.com/epostings/index.cfm?version=1&company_id=17011 Deadline May 1st: 2015 Script Pipeline TV Writing Competition. Accepted entries include original pilots and specs of existing shows. As a TA you help out with whatever random tasks going on around the school, including a lot of student shoots. Pay is $15 an hour. But the real bonus of the job is YOU TELL THEM YOUR AVAILABILITY EVERY WEEK. So if you get a gig they are totally fine for you leaving for months at a time.
